He filled the truck with as many wounded as he could fit and transported them to the hospital, making numerous trips back and forth. He attributed his smart thinking and quick decision-making to his time in the Marines.

Three days later, the 29-year-old received a text from the man that he “stole” the contracting truck from. “Hey Taylor told you might have the keys to my truck?? All I won’t is the key. Other then that its all water under the bridge to me and hows the people you hauled doing.”

Winston, who served two tours in Afghanistan before retiring as a sergeant, responded: “I have em for ya. When do you want to meet for em? We’re at the Monte Carlo. I took about 30 critically injured to the hospital. Your truck was extremely important saving those peoples lives.” “I don’t know if they all made it,” he added.

In an interview with USA Today, Winston recalled the moment the shooting began, and he noticed multiple contracting trucks in a field nearby. “First one we tried opening had keys sitting right there. I started looking for people to take to the hospital,” Winston said.”There was just too many and it was overwhelming how much blood was everywhere.”

In a separate interview with CNN, the Iraq war veteran explained how they went about loading the wounded. “Shots were still firing, we had a couple of friends … set up a makeshift hospital on the backside away from the gunfire, and they were pulling people out of the venue. We pulled up to that and they started loading us up with the most critical injured.”

While others ran in fear, Winston and other veterans in attendance at the concert decided to risk their lives to save the lives of complete strangers. Apparently, once a hero, always a hero.
